Helpful Hints
"Is
Your Toothbrush Safe?"
If it's within five feet of a toilet being flushed, you can be sure there is
danger of the fine water particles drifting this far. If another household member
has a cold or other sickness, separate and cover toothbrushes.
"Heart
Attack or Stroke"
The medical profession believes that many heart attacks and/or strokes might
be minimized by taking two aspirins immediately upon onset.
"Cold
Season Heading Our Way"
No cure in sight but you can either avoid or diminish the effects by applying
the following: Stay three feet away from coughers/sneezers, wash hands often
and don't touch your eyes, nose or mouth, avoid closed in areas, drink lots
of water, exercise regularly, sterilize sponges/dish clothes, take Vitamin E
& C, get ample sleep, gargle with warm salt water, consume low fat chicken soup.
"Avoid
Dog Bites"
Dogs appear able to sense fear and weakness. The two basic approaches to avoiding
a dog bite are: 1) Don't move toward the dog nor make eye contact as dogs see
this as a threat or challenge to them and their "territory." 2) If
the above is not practical or possible and you have the experience, a display
of master or "pack leader" may instill submission; however, be wary
in this "face down" and don't let your guard down until the confrontation
has been resolved by the dog leaving.
"Hearing
Loss Threats"
Anything above 80 decibels can cause hearing loss, especially if the sound is
continuous. Protection can be afforded by using earplugs, ear muffs or a combination
of the two. Decibel levels: 85 - factory, screaming child; 90 - motorcycle,
lawn mower; 100 - blow dryer, diesel truck, subway train, helicopter, chain
saw; 110 - car horn, snowblower; 120 - rock concert, propeller plane; 130 -
jet engine 100 feet away, sirens; 140 - shotgun blast.
