Shooting industry & taxes figures:
The economic importance of the sport shooting and hunting industries in America. Hunting alone each year pumps almost $30 billion into the American economy and supports 986,000 jobs. Excise taxes collected on firearms, ammunition and other products related to the shooting sports and hunting totals more than $4 billion. Referred to as Pittman-Robertson funding for the name of the bill which created the tax at the request of the firearms industry, it supports vast numbers of state wildlife conservation programs. All who love the outdoors benefit from this tax paid for by shooters and hunters. If political opponents of firearms ownership achieve their goal of destroying the firearms industry with lawsuits, this source of funding to state agencies will be lost.
